Play Everything.
Track Nothing.
The open-source media player built for purists. Perfect frame pacing, bit-perfect audio passthrough, and native support for every format ever minted. Zero bloat.
v4.2.1 • 42MB • GPLv3 License
Modern players are broken.
You know the routine. You download an 80GB REMUX, open it in your standard player, and the HDR looks washed out. The audio is out of sync. It drops frames during panning shots. Or worse, the player requires a login and phones home every time you hit pause.
UMedia was built by codec engineers who got tired of fighting their software just to watch a movie.
No Codec Packs Required.
If it has audio or video data, UMedia parses it natively using our custom FFmpeg fork.
.MKV
Flawless Matroska demuxing. Ordered chapters, attachments, and complex segment linking.
HEVC
10-bit and 12-bit H.265 decoding with zero chroma upsampling errors.
AV1
Hardware-accelerated AV1 playback on modern GPUs. CPU fallback optimized for older chips.
ProRes
Raw 422/4444 playback directly from your camera's SSD. No proxies needed.
Tone-mapping that actually works.
Playing a 10,000 nit Dolby Vision file on a 400 nit SDR monitor usually results in a grey, washed-out mess. Not here.
Our custom shader pipeline uses dynamic frame-by-frame metadata analysis (similar to madVR, but built-in and cross-platform) to map BT.2020 color volumes accurately to your display's specific capabilities.
- HDR10+ Dynamic Metadata support
- Dolby Vision Profile 5/7/8 parsing
- Custom LUT (.cube) loading per-monitor
Bit-perfect audio delivery.
We don't touch your audio unless you ask us to. Exclusive mode access ensures Windows Mixer doesn't resample your 192kHz FLACs.
WASAPI Exclusive
Bypass the OS audio mixer entirely. Direct line to your DAC.
TrueHD & DTS:X Passthrough
Send raw spatial audio bitstreams directly to your AV Receiver over HDMI.
High-Q Resampler
When resampling is necessary, our SoX-based algorithm operates with 175dB of stop-band rejection.
No more 3:2 pulldown judder.
Watching a 24fps movie on a 60Hz monitor usually requires playing some frames twice and others three times, creating noticeable judder during panning shots.
UMedia uses optical flow frame blending to match your display's exact refresh rate perfectly, even if it drifts slightly. If you have a VRR (G-Sync/FreeSync) display, we bypass Windows DWM to take absolute control of the refresh timing.
Hardware Decode Performance (4K HEVC 10-bit)
Subtitles that don't look like an afterthought.
Full libass integration means complex ASS/SSA typography, karaoke effects, and dual-language styling render exactly as the fansubbers intended.
あの空の向こうに、何があるのだろう。
I wonder what lies beyond that sky.
GUI optional.
Power users don't want to click through five menus to change an audio track. UMedia can be run entirely from the command line, and every single property can be bound to a hotkey.
Our IPC protocol allows you to control the player via JSON sockets, making it trivial to integrate with Python scripts, Home Assistant, or custom macro pads.

Zero Telemetry. Ever.
Your media library is your business. UMedia does not track what you watch, how long you watch it, or where the files are stored. We have no analytics servers, no crash reporters that upload memory dumps, and no mandatory accounts.
Trusted by pixel peepers.
"When you're checking dailies off an ARRI Alexa, you can't afford a player that silently drops frames or applies a hidden gamma curve. UMedia is the only player I trust to show me exactly the bits that are on the SSD."
"The exclusive mode audio passthrough works instantly without jumping through Windows registry hoops. My DAC finally shows 192kHz when it's supposed to."
Anime4K
Real-time AI upscaling for 1080p anime to 4K displays.
SVP Integration
SmoothVideo Project frame interpolation support.
AutoCrop
Automatically detects and crops black bars for ultrawide monitors.
Trakt.tv scrobbler
Sync your watch history automatically (opt-in).
